Forwoods was established in 1946 in the cathedral city of Canterbury, and now operates as a specialist mail order business from a beautiful Old Kent Barn on a farm just outside Dover. I'm Stephen Yarrow. I've been with the business since 1986, and now run it with the help of my wife Sue. We retain the "family business" outlook although we are one of the leading suppliers of printed music and accessories in the UK, and we are determined that the service we provide will be the very best it can be. | In my spare time I'm Director of Music at Dover's ancient Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin. I graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 1986, joined Forwoods as a stop gap and have been here ever since, eventually buying the business in 1993. I immediately identified the growth potential of the mail order printed music business, as so many towns have lost their "traditional music shop". A vigorous campaign of advertising and exhibitions has seen the profile of the business increase considerably to the point where we are now one of the undisputed market leaders. So it was a natural progression to open a dedicated mail order facility in 2002. Forwoods continues to go from strength to strength - we have close relationships with all the major publishers which enables a speedy turn around of orders, and we are developing this site to give you much more information on contents, publishers, and other details. |
| The catalog on this site reflects our specialism, which is the supply of classical printed music and accessories, including set pieces for exams and core repertoire. It is not an exhaustive list - we can supply any item which is in print. If the item you are looking for is not listed, email me and I'll do my best to source it for you. Whilst we try to keep the items in this catalog in stock, the presence of an item in the list does not necessarily mean we have it in stock. However, it takes us less than a week (usually!) to get out of stock items to you. Making a purchase
Buying from our site could not be easier. Just browse our catalogue and click on "Add to Basket" for any items you wish to buy. After you have finished selecting your purchases, click on "Order" and you will be asked for a few details which we need to be able to satisfy your order. |
Shipping and handling
For UK destinations orders up to £9.99 attract a carriage charge of £2.00, orders between £10.00 and £19.99 attract a carriage charge of £3.00, between £20.00 and £49.99 the charge is £4.00, and over £50.00 your order is despatched free of carriage charges.For European Union destinations orders up to £20.00 attract a carriage charge of £5.00, with a further £2.50 payable per £10.00 order value. For USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other destinations, orders up to £20.00 attract a carriage charge of £10.00, with a further £5.00 payable per £10.00 order value. |
Delivery schedule
We have learned from experience not to make promises regarding delivery. We aim simply to provide you with a reliable service at a reasonable cost. To keep our prices competitive we do not keep huge stocks of any particular item. No matter how good our stock control, there will occasionally be times when a particular item is not immediately available.Sometimes this will be due to overwhelming demand, and sometimes it will be due to circumstances beyond our control, such as the item having gone to reprint or out of print. You should be aware that your credit card is charged automatically online at the time you place your order. In the circumstances outlined above, we will do our best to contact you and inform you of any anticipated delays. You may cancel your order at any time if you are not happy to wait. |
Back orders
If the item you require is not in stock it will automatically be back ordered for you and supplied when new stock arrives, usually within 7-10 days. Occasionally we have may difficulty obtaining the item you require from the publisher. If this is the case we will endeavour to inform you how long the wait is likely to be and we will ask you to either confirm or cancel your order. |

Sheet music and books are currently zero rated for VAT in the UK. |

We accept credit card payment by Visa or Mastercard. If you are shopping in North America or elsewhere, your credit card company will convert the transaction to US dollars or your own currency.You may send your credit card details via phone, fax, snailmail or over the internet. We know of no documented cases of credit card fraud using our shopping system over the internet. All credit card numbers are encrypted using 128 bit encryption.
